How to Check If a Moving Company Is Legit

Simple. Do your homework before you hand over your stuff.

First. Check reviews. Not just the five-stars, but the bad ones too. Look for patterns. If everyone’s saying “they were late” or “stuff got broken,” believe them.

Second. Licensing and insurance. In the US, movers need a license number. No license? No thanks.

Third. Clear pricing. If they avoid giving you a written estimate, that’s a red flag. No one likes surprise fees.

Fourth. Ask questions. Real companies give real answers. Not vague promises or “don’t worry, we got you.”

And finally. Trust your gut. If it feels sketchy, it probably is.

Moving Tips & Guides

What Not To Pack explained in our moving guide

What Not to Pack When Moving – Items You Should Never Load on the Truck

Some Things Are Better Left Out of the Truck

While most household items are safe to move, there are a few that should never go into the moving truck — for legal, safety, or practical reasons. Here’s what iBox Moving recommends keeping out of your moving boxes.

1. Flammable and Hazardous Materials

Gasoline, propane, paint thinners, matches, fire extinguishers, cleaning solvents, and similar items are not allowed. These materials pose a serious fire and safety risk during transport.

2. Perishable Food

Food that can spoil — dairy, meats, frozen or refrigerated items — should be consumed or donated before the move. These items can leak, attract pests, or spoil in transit.

3. Plants

Some states restrict plant transport across borders. In local moves, plants may still suffer from heat or jostling in the truck. It’s best to move them in your own vehicle with care.

4. Valuables and Personal Documents

Keep jewelry, passports, cash, legal documents, and essential medications with you — not in the truck. These items are irreplaceable and safer in your control.

5. Weapons and Ammunition

Firearms and ammo should be transported according to legal regulations, not by your moving company. Discuss options with a licensed dealer if needed.

6. Pets and Live Animals

No animals should ever be placed in a moving truck. Move your pets in a secure, temperature-controlled vehicle with plenty of breaks and comfort.

FAQ

When To Schedule answered by iBox Moving experts

When to Schedule Your Move – Best Timing Tips from iBox Moving

When Should I Schedule My Move?

To get the best availability and rates, it’s always a good idea to schedule your move as early as possible. At iBox Moving, we understand that flexibility matters, so we offer options for both early bookings and last-minute moves.

Best Timeframes for Booking

  • 2–3 Weeks in Advance: Ideal for most local moves. Ensures your preferred date and time are available, especially at the end or beginning of the month.
  • 1 Week in Advance: Still great for standard moves, especially on weekdays.
  • Same-Day or Next-Day: Yes — we can often accommodate last-minute moves depending on availability. Just call us!

What Days Are Most Popular?

Fridays, weekends, and end-of-month dates book up quickly. If you need to move during these high-demand times, we recommend scheduling at least 2–3 weeks ahead.

When Is the Cheapest Time to Move?

  • Mid-month (around the 10th–20th)
  • Weekdays (Monday through Thursday)
  • Morning time slots

These times are usually less busy and may offer better rates or more flexibility.

Can I Reschedule If My Plans Change?

Absolutely. Just let us know as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to adjust. We understand that plans shift — and we’re here to work with you.
