How to Prepare Items for a Storage Unit
Choose the Unit Before Moving Day
Estimate the required size, confirm access hours, truck clearance, elevators, carts, gate codes, insurance requirements, and prohibited items.
Pack for Storage
Use strong labeled boxes, avoid overloading, clean and dry appliances, and protect furniture. Do not store food, hazardous materials, propane, or anything prohibited by the facility.
Create an Access Plan
Place items you may need near the front and maintain a safe aisle. Keep a private inventory and photos of valuable contents.
Protect Against Conditions
Ask the facility about temperature, humidity, pests, water exposure, and insurance. Use shelving or pallets only if permitted and appropriate.
